E-Mentoring Service Available at Ohio State
Ohio State has enrolled in MentorNet, the award-winning, e-mentoring network for diversity in engineering and science, to offer one-on-one, e-mail-based mentoring opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral staff and early career faculty in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. MentorNet is nonprofit and free to students and addresses the retention and success of those in engineering, science and mathematics, particularly but+ not exclusively women and other underrepresented groups. To find a mentor, fill out a profile online and select a mentor. To volunteer as a mentor, fill out a mentor profile online as well. OSU's enrollment in this service is funded by the colleges of Engineering, Biological Sciences, and Math and Physical Sciences; and the Women's Place. Website: http://www.mentornet.net/
Managing Laboratories Workshops
The Women’s Place, in partnership with the Office of Human Resources and the University Faculty & Staff Assistance Program offered a series of workshops for women in the sciences on skills for managing laboratories during the 2005-06 academic year. The series was designed in consultation with women scientists from various departments based in part on the “Making the Right Moves: A Practical Guide to Scientific Management for Postdocs and New Faculty”.
